There are many different ways to cope with the emotions of feeling pregnant. Some people find pregnancy symptoms comforting, while others want them to go away as quickly as possible. Why do I no longer feel pregnant?
Some women don\’t feel pregnant even when they are, because their particular body chemistry does not produce strong physical symptoms. For these people, a pregnancy test is the only way to confirm that the woman\’s egg has been fertilized and implanted in her uterus.
Your symptoms, and how significant they are, can differ from one pregnancy to the next. When I was pregnant with my second, I had some significant early pregnancy symptoms for the first 6 weeks or so, but then for a few weeks I felt completely normal; I didn\’t feel pregnant anymore. It really was the lack of symptoms that made me question whether I really was pregnant.
Why have my pregnancy symptoms suddenly stopped?
If you\’ve had severe pregnancy symptoms that abate or go away well before you\’re 12 weeks pregnant, it could be possible that your hCG hormone levels are dropping. hCG is the hormone that gives you a positive pregnancy test – it is found in your urine once you\’re in to the second and third week of pregnancy.
That said, if your pregnancy symptoms abruptly stop there may be more than just your pregnancy affecting it – things happening in your day to day life (perhaps work is busy) or how active you\’ve been (perhaps you\’ve had a big shopping trip or went for a big walk over the weekend) you may find that tracking pregnancy symptoms is a lot harder, and your symptoms haven\’t actually gone away at all.
Pregnancy symptoms vary from day to day, so many women are concerned that the lack of signs might indicate something is wrong. This is especially true if this is your first child, since you\’re experiencing everything for the first time.
If you were experiencing symptoms before, but are concerned about their sudden disappearance, reach out to your healthcare professional.
Is it normal to suddenly not feel pregnant anymore?
It is normal to suddenly stop feeling pregnant anymore – you could go months without having any pregnancy symptoms – but it doesn\’t mean you will lose the baby. However, if you had the common pregnancy symptoms and they suddenly disappeared, or if you experience worrisome symptoms such as bleeding or spotting or abdominal discomfort, talk to your caregiver.
Many pregnant women who experienced significant early pregnancy symptoms lose those as time goes on, and they begin feeling more like their normal selves again. (Morning sickness going away after the first trimester is a big one!) This is all common to happen in a healthy pregnancy.
Things like breast tenderness appear one day and disappear the next, according to several future moms. Some symptoms could go away only to be replaced by new ones, so an abrupt change to common symptoms can be totally normal.
By the time I hit about 13 weeks in my first pregnancy I still had the sore boobs and felt a bit nauseous, but i\’d ended up with an energy boost. I was concerned, since i\’d spent the entire pregnancy up until this point feeling very lethargic and drained, so the boost to how I felt caught my attention. My obstetrician suggested this was one of the common signs of changing hormones, and nothing to worry about. My son was born healthy.
I don’t feel pregnant anymore after bleeding
If you\’re more than 3 weeks into pregnancy and you experience bleeding or spotting, it can be a cause for concern. However, this doesn\’t mean that you aren\’t having a miscarriage – sometimes early miscarriage symptoms mimic those of a healthy pregnancy!
If your doctor is concerned about your health and/or the development of the baby they may recommend more testing to make sure everything\’s okay. If all is well, your doctor will suggest you wait a week or two and see if the bleeding continues – this is common practice to determine whether it\’s a miscarriage.
There are various reasons why you might be bleeding during pregnancy. Uterine fibroids or uterine anomalies are two examples of uterine problems that can cause bleeding. A yeast infection, for example, may result in some spotting, and sometimes having sex can also irritate a pregnant woman\’s body enough to result in bleeding.
Nonetheless, light bleeding that progresses into heavier bleeding, especially if a mother is cramping and other pregnancy symptoms stop, might be an indication of miscarriage. To diagnose the cause of your bleeding and evaluate the state of your pregnancy, see your doctor.

How do I know if I am still pregnant?
If you are having positive pregnancy symptoms but suddenly find that the intensity of your symptoms has decreased, there may be no cause for concern. It’s possible that some things in your life have changed or increased since becoming pregnant – work stress or exercise levels might affect how you feel!
However, if they decrease drastically without a reasonable explanation (you were very active one day and the next you weren’t, for example) or if your pregnancy symptoms suddenly stop altogether (you had severe nausea/food aversions early on but now they are gone), talk to your caregiver. They might recommend more tests be done just to make sure everything is okay with the baby.
You can confirm you are still pregnant through an ultrasound – an ultrasound where you can see (and possibly hear) a heartbeat will let you know you are still pregnant.
Anxiety may be higher in the early stages of pregnancy before you feel your baby move and can feel confident that everything is OK, so reaching out to your doctor will give you certainty.
How soon after miscarriage do pregnancy symptoms disappear?
If you miscarried early in your pregnancy, then symptoms will likely disappear very quickly (within a few days). A pregnancy test conducted three weeks after a miscarriage should be negative, implying that your HcG levels should be back to normal. However, if the results come back positive (or remain unclear) you should take this as a sign that there are still pregnancy hormones in your body.
In rare cases, if you experience significant symptoms such as morning sickness and food cravings that suddenly disappear, it is possible to still be pregnant.
If you are unsure about whether or not you are still pregnant, start by taking a pregnancy test. If the result is negative and you still don\’t feel pregnant then it\’s possible that all of your early symptoms were due to implantation and nothing more.
If you continue to experience any symptoms of being pregnant, see your doctor. Most women who have had a miscarriage confirmed by a doctor will notice their pregnancy symptoms drop off reasonably quickly, but you should allow 1-2 weeks for the woman\’s body to do what it needs to do.
I don’t feel pregnant anymore during the first trimester
Pregnancy symptoms vary from woman to woman. Some women will experience intense nausea and an insatiable hunger, while others might not feel any different at all!
With this in mind, it’s completely normal to miss a period and then find that you don’t “feel pregnant anymore” during the first trimester. This is especially true if you are experiencing nausea and food aversions (it can be hard to feel pregnant when your body doesn’t want the things that normally make up breakfast, lunch or dinner).
If you continue to have positive home pregnancy tests, have not had cramping or bleeding, and are otherwise feeling okay, it is normal to not \’feel\’ pregnant during the first trimester.
Feeling pregnant is strongly connected to feeling those common symptoms – pregnant women are looking for those strange food cravings, gaining weight, frequent urination, breast tenderness and mood swings, to name a few. Some women also experience fatigue in early pregnancy due to hormonal changes, which could mean that they don\’t have enough energy for other activities.
I think I was like most pregnant women in that when I started \’showing\’ (when my tummy was noticeably bigger to others) in the second trimester, I \’felt\’ pregnant. That feeling increased significantly again when I started to feel baby move.
I don\’t feel pregnant anymore at 4 weeks
At 4 weeks pregnant, the embryo of baby is still implanting into your uterus. Most women who are 4 weeks pregnant may only have pregnancy symptoms like fatigue, sore boobs and bloating – all of which are also symptoms of an upcoming period.
If you\’re 4 weeks pregnant and have had a positive pregnancy test, but don\’t feel pregnant anymore, wait a few more days before taking another test. Make an appointment to see your doctor to confirm your pregnancy via a blood test.
Pregnancy symptoms are tied to your hormone levels as your pregnancy progresses, so given you would still be very early in your pregnancy, it makes sense that your symptoms may come and go.
If things aren\’t going as planned, many women experiencing early pregnancy loss may not even know that they\’re pregnant. A chemical pregnancy (the most common type of miscarriage, where baby is miscarried soon after implantation at 3-5 weeks) will not have seen much of an increase in the pregnancy hormones to make a mother \’feel\’ pregnant.

I don\’t feel pregnant anymore at 5 weeks
About half of pregnant women don\’t have any pregnancy symptoms at 5 weeks!
If you have had a positive pregnancy test and are five weeks pregnant, it is very common to have pregnancy symptoms one day, and the complete absence of them the next.
Take another home pregnancy test and head to your doctor if you have concerns about your pregnancy. Your hCG levels should be rapidly increasing at this point, and a blood test can confirm what your levels are.
I don\’t feel pregnant anymore at 6 weeks
A pregnant woman at 6 weeks is likely to have experienced some symptoms by this stage, but some of the major symptoms like morning sickness may still not have kicked in yet.
Many women will head to an ultrasound clinic around this time to get the first glimpses of baby – by this stage an ultrasound may be able to detect a heartbeat. This is a surefire way to confirm your pregnancy status if you don\’t feel that you\’re pregnant anymore.
My first ultrasounds were both in week six, and I did not have any symptoms during this week at all. By week six the risk of miscarriage is around 5%.
I don’t feel pregnant anymore during the second trimester
have you heard of the \”honeymoon phase\” as it pertains to pregnancy? A pregnant woman may find that they feel quite normal In the second trimester because they\’re not feeling as nauseous anymore, and other symptoms have dropped off.
Frequent urination or having a bit of back pain, and possibly seeing that growing tummy, might be the only ways that you feel like you are pregnant in the second trimester. This is normal. The risk of miscarriage is 1 to 2% at this time.
Again, if you are concerned about your pregnancy – reach out to your doctor. If you don\’t have any significant pregnancy symptoms at this stage though, rest assured that things are most likely progressing perfectly fine! Enjoy this time before the third trimester begins, and more of the typically uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms kick in!
In Conclusion – it is normal to feel pregnant sometimes, and not pregnant anymore the next
Pregnancy signs and symptoms can be unpredictable, but if you are experiencing any of the following: nausea/food aversions, sore breasts, or mood swings then chances are that you might still be pregnant.
The best way to know for sure is by taking a pregnancy test and then heading to a medical professional. Don\’t feel embarrassed about reaching out; that is what they\’re there for, you\’re likely not the first pregnant woman they\’ll hear from today, and they\’ll completely understand your concern. Speaking with them will help reduce your stress levels, which is also good for your baby.
If for whatever reason you can\’t get in to see your regular doctor, many clinics offer the chance to book a private scan – while you\’ll pay more, you may also find it reassuring. For me, particularly in my first pregnancy, I found that I could stop worrying so much once I\’d heard my baby\’s heartbeat. I was able to get some of that positive energy and vibe back so that I could start actually enjoying my pregnancy.
Wishing you good luck with your pregnancy! Get some rest in before baby arrives!
